We offer something pretty unique in the energy sector – green gas for your business.
Green Gas or Biomethane is a type of gas that can be produced from a number of sources, including grass, landfill waste, and agricultural waste. Biomethane is created, refined and then injected into the gas grid by green gas producers. Green Gas can be used as a substitute for natural gas as it has the same characteristics and specifications as fossil gas.
In an ideal world, everyone would choose to have 100% green gas, so why hasn’t everyone switched over? Unfortunately, there’s a limited volume of green gas available in the UK and a growing demand with climate change being a hot topic. But we now offer a range of green gas products to suit every budget.
Green Gas is created from a natural process called anaerobic digestion whereby organic material is converted into biomethane. This anaerobic digestion process is done by allowing bacteria to break down the organic material in an oxygen-free environment.
Green gas can be made from a number of biodegradable materials and the process for each differs slightly. Once the anaerobic digestion is complete, the CO2 is then removed and subject to meeting gas quality requirements gets injected into the national grid. This can then be used in existing gas appliances across the UK.
The number of green gas plants in the UK has risen from just one in 2013 to over 300 now, 60 of which are feeding directly into the grid. As this continues to grow, some expect over 95% of all domestic demand to be fulfilled by green gas by 2035.
When we extract and burn gas from fossil fuels, we’re reintroducing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that has been locked away for millions of years causing climate damage but biomethane is produced from organic materials that absorbed carbon dioxide while they grew. This means when green gas is burned, it only releases that same amount of carbon dioxide. Since it doesn’t add more CO2 to the earth’s atmosphere, it’s a carbon-neutral.
Green gas can provide long-term financial security for British farmers by creating new opportunities, a fresh alternative to dairy and meat production which also accounts for 60% of farming’s greenhouse gas emissions.
It’s no secret that we’re very quickly depleting the earth of its natural fossil fuel collection. While we have animal waste, agricultural crops, food waste and… well, grass, green gas is a very sustainable alternative.
All green gas is tracked from production to consumption. The Green Gas Certification Scheme currently governs the process and allows you to view your certificate and find out more information such as the location and method of extraction.
Most of the Green Power ATE use is from Drax Power Station – the biggest renewable generator in the UK (as well as Europe’s largest decarbonisation project). In recent years, Drax has upgraded half of its generation units to use compressed wood pellets (biomass)
instead of coal. It has also started Europe’s first bioenergy carbon capture use and storage (BECCUS) project – if successful and scalable, this could make Drax the world’s first carbon negative power station.
The biomass we use typically comes from low-value wood such as thinnings, small branches and diseased or misshapen trees that cannot be used for higher value purposes, such as furniture.
It is processed into pellets close to the forest and transport sites, making it more efficient to transport, our partner audits biomass suppliers according to robust sustainability criteria – they are leaders in the Forest Footprint Disclosure scheme.

However just as important, we look to engage with your key stakeholders to clearly define the strategy for the short and long-term goals of your business.
Short term drivers typically cover the current state of the energy markets (Bearish / Bullish), the prevailing fundamentals such as weather, geopolitical political risks, seasonality and your current immediate business requirements. Each one of these drivers will impact which energy solution is best for your corporation. Procuring energy whilst taking into account these short term and long-term drivers is where we stand out amongst our competitors. Longer-term drivers can be driven predominantly by your budgetary processes, hedging capabilities or business dictated strategies, which in turn will highlight other indicators that may drive the decisions, such as, raw material costs. Therefore, ensuring that our energy solutions for your corporation also aligns with your budget is vital to minimise your overheads. Each financial aspect of the corporation will be considered making our energy procurement not only the most suitable option, but also an affordable option as we always seek to find the best deal for our clients in Bradford and across the UK.
